This choreography workshop is designed for anyone interested in practicing making dances. Particular emphasis will be placed on solo explorations designed to meet all level of dance-maker. All participants will be encouraged to reflect on their current interests, instincts, habits, and curiosities and will be guided through processes for generating material that feel specific to personal goals. Rich and varied opportunities for reflection and feedback will be woven throughout the process as will approaches to intuitive working that are playful, messy, rigorous and specific. The week's experience will culminate in an informal showing during the final workshop day.
Katie Faulkner is a choreographer, performer, teaching artist and Artistic Director of little seismic dance company. As a dancer, she has performed the works of Bill T. Jones, Alex Ketley, Stephen Petronio, Ann Carlson, Victoria Marks, Susan Rethorst, and was a member of AXIS Dance Company from 2003-2007. Her choreographic work has received support both locally and nationally in the form of numerous grants, commissions, awards and residencies including those at ODC Theater, the Rauschenberg Residency, the Headlands Center for the Arts, and MANCC. The recipient of several Isadora Duncan Dance Awards and nominations, she also received the top prize in the Joyce Theater A.W.A.R.D. Show!/SF competition and the SF Bay Guardian GOLDIE Award for dance. She has been a long-term instructor on the faculties at ODC, UC Berkeley and the University of San Francisco and is a certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst. She is currently a 2017-18 Truth Fellow at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. www.littleseismicdance.org
