In each moment of an improvised dance there are myriads of possibilities. When we cultivate a relaxed and focused presence, we can expand the range of choices, and continuously stay "out of the box" of expectation.
In this class, we focus on efficient use of CI skills, such as counterbalancing, momentum follow-through, and maintaining physical contact while falling. This promotes ease in changing physical states and levels of touch and weight, as well as re-invention of what a CI dance might look and feel like.
Katarina Eriksson teaches Contact Improvisation and other improvisational forms in Europe and the US. She has been involved with improvisational dance since 1989, collaborating with artists, such as Julyen Hamilton, Cathie Caraker, Krista DeNio, and as a member and co-founder of Swedish improvisation ensemble Floke.
Katarina's traditional dance background includes graduation from The Ballet Academy, Gothenburg and working at The Gothenburg State Theater and Opera, as well as with numerous choreographers and dance companies in Sweden.
More recent performance endeavors are; site-specific work with Siljeholm/Christophersen in Beirut, clowning at Noh Space, San Francisco, and dancing with Siri og Snelle Produksjoner at Performance Mix Festival, New York.
Katarina's teaching supports collaboration, diversity of expression, and ìbeginnerís mind. Her main guides in art- making are vulnerability, musicality and deep play.
