Arts Access at Rhythm & Motion and ODC School

Arts Access is ODC’s organizational-wide program that offers a limited number of additional subsidies for performance tickets and classes for those where price is a barrier.

ODC and Rhythm & Motion are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion through dance and hold the strong belief that everyone should be able to dance. For adult classes, Arts Access is an additional 50% subsidy to the drop-in rate. Students must complete a short application. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and approved applicants will be enrolled in the Arts Access program for a designated period of time. After that point in time, members are welcome to reapply. Arts Access merbership is granted from 3 - 12 months depending on individual circumstances.

We understand that annual income is only one measure of need and that other conditions may limit your ability to pay for classes.
Examples of those who may qualify are:

  • Seniors on a fixed income
  • Full-time visual or performing artists who rely on their art for income
  • Those who are unemployed
  • Those who are unhoused/facing eviction
  • Unified School District teachers in the Bay Area
  • US Veterans/US Military personnel
  • Those with an additional weighty expense (medical fees, student loan payments, etc)

  • Arts Access at ODC Theater

ODC is offering a limited number of lower-cost Art Access tickets to every ODC presented performance. These additionally subsidized tickets, available on a first come, first serve basis, are reserved for those for whom price is a barrier. These tickets are available at checkout.

We know living in the Bay Area is expensive. We also highly value the art onstage and are invested in supporting the artists that create it. Ticket prices only cover a small fraction of the resources invested in the performance and we strive to make them as accessible as possible. Continued financial support through ticket purchases and charitable donations from people like you make Art Access tickets possible.

If you already have Arts Access and you want to reapply to ensure there is no break in your subsidy, you can submit your application up to 30 days before your granted duration expires. All applicants will receive an email reminder 21 days before their granted duration expires reminding them to reapply. Applications received before this time will not be considered. Arts Access Members are responsible for maintaining their involvement in the program and must reapply at least three working days before their granted duration expires in order to avoid any lapse in additional subsidy.

  • What if the Arts Access price is still too much for me?

We are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion through dance and work hard to make dance accessible for all. For those where an additional 50% subsidy to class prices still feels out of reach, we encourage you to apply to our Work Exchange program.

  • I’m a senior on a fixed income, do I qualify for Arts Access?

Absolutely! We rolled our senior discount into Arts Access in an effort to streamline our pricing structure and are inviting our senior community to opt-in to this price point by filling in the Arts Access form.

  • Why was I granted Arts Access for more/less time than my friend?

We grant Arts Access duration based on a whole host of factors. It could be the time of year that you apply, the answers you’ve given, or the number of applications we’ve received that month. Just because you receive a certain duration in one application period, it doesn’t mean that it will be the same next time if you reapply.

This is a brand new, unprecedented program for us, and we’re trying our best to make sure this isn’t a burden on our students or on our administrative team. By granting different time periods, it also allows us to space out applications which should also help us with the administrative side of things. We aim to grant the longest duration to those whose situations are least likely to change, and the shortest to those whose situations are most likely to change.

  • How many times can I take a class under Arts Access?

Upon acceptance into the Arts Access program, you are welcome to take as many classes at the Arts Access rate as you like. There is no limit on classes, but these classes are non-transferable and are only to be used by the individual whose application was approved.

  • Can I use Arts Access on workshops?

Arts Access only applies to single drop-in classes and cannot be used on workshops or master classes.

  • How many times can I reapply for Arts Access?

As Arts Access is a needs-based program, you are welcome to continue to reapply for Arts Access as long as you still have a need.

  • My application was denied. What do I do now?

If your circumstances change, we encourage you to reapply to the Arts Access program. If you would like to talk to someone about your denied application, please email artsaccess@odc.dance.

  • How can I support Arts Access?

Our Arts Access program relies on donations from generous individuals who also believe that dance should be accessible to all. To make a donation to this program please visit odc.dance/donate or email development@odc.dance
