Fanny Ara: Lilith
February 23 - 25, 2024
ODC Theater
Fanny Ara reflects on the journey of Lilith, a female symbol of independence, freedom and control over destiny through experimental and improvisational flamenco dance. Does liberation have a price? Are we the prisoner of our freedom? In Lilith, Ara exposes the weight of chains she once had to carry, self-inflicted as well as imposed by the expectations of others. She takes us through the mesmerizing journey of her fight towards growth, acceptance, and liberation. Ara reaches a point of maturity, embodying strength and courage that came from years of experiences and assumed choices.
Fanny Ara is an internationally sought-after and award-winning choreographer, performer and instructor credited as one of the driving forces of flamenco today. She is an artist excelling in the full spectrum of flamenco from the most traditional to the avant-garde and has been distinguished over the years with five nominations from the Isadora Duncan Dance Awards and won New York’s Vilcek Foundation prize for “Creative Promise in Dance”. Her latest work, Tattooed, was reviewed as "one of the most amazing, moving and effective flamenco productions where the ovation was immediate, standing, vociferous, prolonged.

Land Acknowledgement
ODC is on the ancestral lands of the Ramaytush People in Yelamu. We pay respects to elders past and present, who are still here and part of our community. We recognize that regenerative land management is not new, but is a continuation of practices from Native cultures and from our own ancestors. It is our responsibility to steward the land with care, as our elders did before us.
