CO-COMMISSIONED BY ODC THEATER AND AMERICAN MODERN OPERA COMPANY (AMOC) BOBBI JENE SMITH IN COLLABORATION WITH KEIR GOGWILT FEATURING OR SCHRAIBER, MIRANDA CUCKSON, AND A SPECIAL ORIGINAL MUSIC COMMISSION FROM MATTHEW AUCOIN
Building on the cross-disciplinary work performed in A Study on Effort, an event co-presented by ODC Theater and the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival in 2017, Bobbi Jene Smith and Keir GoGwilt’s newest project explores ideas of care and caregiving through music, dance, and spoken word.
Conceived as a drama between two twinned characters, a caregiver and a wounded spirit, With Care is a physical investigation of vacancy, loss, and passion using the sensation-based movement practice Gaga. Joining Smith and GoGwilt onstage are dancer Or Meir Schraiber, like Smith a veteran of Batsheva Dance Company, and violinist Miranda Cuckson.
American Modern Opera Company is the artistic home for some of the most diverse and vibrant singers, dancers, and instrumentalists of our generation. AMOC acts as the incubator and executor for 17 core members’ most ambitious, innovative projects. AMOC's commitment is to working as an ensemble to reimagine the experience of opera – from conception to performance.
