Program A: Grassland and Speaking Volumes
March 26 - 29, 2020
Blue Shield of California Theater at YBCA

Program A features two celebratory and bracing works by ODC's world renowned choreographers, Brenda Way and KT Nelson. Both embody values that continue to compel the artists: nature and community. Nelson's Grassland, is a nod to nature's diversity, where beauty is found in both variety and oddities. It is a sweeping work of inventive movement set to a commissioned score by Marcelo Zarvos.

Way's Speaking Volumes, is a work about building: a facility, a dance company, and a community. It begins, in a fleeting gloss on the opening of The Marriage of Figaro, with a solo dancers measing the space and accumulates over the course of the work to a final boisterous section with the whole company amplifies by a chorus of young dancers and returning ODC alumni. With a commissioned sound score by Joy Cloidt, it is a celebration of form, structure, architecture, intention, all words that cross boundaries of time and place.

We honor the past and the present, the circus that is holding up the ODC tent.
