Now in its sixth year, the Walking Distance Dance Festival features premieres by Bay Area artists, inviting our public to experience work across the ODC Campus and the Mission District. Featuring performances by The Foundry, FACT/SF, Fauxnique, and tinypistol over the course of two weeks.
Friday and Saturday evening performances occur in both the ODC's B.Way Theater and Studio B while Saturday afternoon performances take place at the Joe Goode Annex.

Studio B, ODC Dance CommonsPlatform is an evening-length contemporary dance duet choreographed and performed by Liane Burns and Charles Slender-White. Inspired by and performed to Holly Herndon's electronic album of the same name, Platform investigates ideas of homogeneity, social media echo-chambers, individuality, and extreme unison. The intimate work will be performed in the round, and features lighting design by Darl Andrew Packard and Delayne Medoff, dramaturgy by Cara Rose DeFabio, styling by Monique Jenkinson, videography by Mark McBeth, and creative advising from Jess Curtis, James Fleming, Nina Haft, Maurya Kerr, Erin Mei-Ling Stuart, and Sheldon Smith.

B. Way, ODC TheaterThe Foundry's Alex Ketley presents the San Francisco premiere of Deep South, with local dancers Manuelito Biag, Katie Faulkner, Maurya Kerr, and Aline Wachsmuth, among others. Researched in the rural South in collaboration with NYC-based choreographer Miguel Gutierrez, Deep South is the final work in the No Hero trilogy exploring what dance and performance means to the lives of people in rural parts of the United States. The piece is part filmic artifact of their experience in the South interlaced with live performance.

B. Way, ODC TheaterMonique Jenkinson brings her drag queen persona, Fauxnique, into the Contemporary Dance realm to challenge and play with discourses that essentialize ‘Woman’. C*NT, or, The Horror of Nothing to See digs into feminist rage, reads critical theory as high camp, and confronts the ruptures caused by the stress of difference.

PoemAnthemSong, choreographed by Maurya Kerr, represents the positioning of three distinct works as newly one, kindred in their mutual reliance on text as infrastructure and inspiration, and responsiveness to sorrow. We cling to the belief that telling truths in public is a form of protest — join us in our communal heartache, righteous rage, defiant devotion, and slivers of scrappy hope.
