Alyssandra Katherine Dance Project (AKDP) is an emerging contemporary dance company that was established in London in 2015 and is now based in San Francisco, California. The mission of AKDP is to create innovative and culturally relevant works of art that are accessible to everyone—both dance professionals and non-dancers alike. The company does this by using pedestrian gestures as the basis for their work, and add physically and mentally challenging layers to not only increase the theatricality of these movements, but create dance pieces that explore issues such as deracination, gender ascription, and accessibility which many can relate. Their debut dance piece, “Obstruct & Connect,” was presented at Resolution!, London’s largest festival for emerging artists in dance, and was met with rave reviews. Critics claimed the work was “...a tribute to the breadth of expressivity of the body—this was pure dance at its best” (Miriam Garnett) and “From an integrated sextet to dynamic solos, each exquisitely formed—A thoroughly absorbing potpourri of dance” (Graham Watts). The company has toured throughout the UK, presenting work at platforms such as FRESH-Northeast, Foot Print, and EMERGE, hosted by UK’s Dance Company C-12. Since then, artistic director, Alyssandra Katherine Wu has been listed on londondance.com as one of the most promising emerging choreographers of 2015. After its relocation to San Francisco, AKDP has presented work in both Los Angeles- and Bay Area-based locations. They are the official audience choice award winners for PUSHfest, 2016 while selected as one of the six ODC Pilot 68 companies. AKDP is a Fleishhacker Opportunity Fund awardee.

Alyssandra has trained extensively in Chinese ethnic, ballet, and modern dance—traveling the world to train in programs in Guangzhou, Beijing, Taipei, and London. Currently, she holds a B.A. from the University of California Los Angeles in World Arts & Culture/Dance and a M.A. from London Contemporary Dance School. She has danced for nationally/internationally renowned choreographers Victoria Marks, Cheng-Chieh Yu, Bih-Tau Sung, Yao Yong, Michel Kouakou, Ros Warby, Jorge Crecis, & Darren Ellis.
