Join a lively conversation between artists and collaborators as they give a glimpse into the process of their works in the liminal times and spaces between performances. See content at various stages of development and ask your questions about how a performance piece lives on offstage.

SFDanceworks' artistic director Brett Conway sits down with rising choreographer Danielle Rowe for a closer look inside her first work for SFDW, the 2017 hit, For Pixie. Set to Nina Simone's "Wild is the Wind" and performed by Conway and Laura O'Malley, the intimate duet became an instant success that catapulted Rowe's budding career. Discover the personal story that inspired the duet and what it means to Rowe now as she continues to evolve and grow her body of work.

Company/Artist Bio

  • SFDanceworks

SFDanceworks was founded in 2014 by James Sofranko, a former soloist of the San Francisco Ballet and current artistic director of the Grand Rapids Ballet. Envisioned as a repertory company dedicated to the past, present, and future of dance, SFDanceworks has quickly risen to critical acclaim presenting an annual summer season featuring high caliber dancers, top quality productions, and works ranging from some of the most sought after contemporary choreographers of our time to emerging up and coming artists alike. In 2019, Sofranko appointed Brett Conway and Laura O’Malley, both former dancers and choreographers of SFDanceworks, as his successors to lead the company forward. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SFDanceworks’ 2020 summer performance season was canceled and looks to present new work come Fall 2021.

All ticket sales are final. Performances, dancers, and guest artists subject to change.
