DANCE PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

 

REGISTER FOR YOUTH AND TEEN CLASSES


Students must be enrolled in a class to participate in performances. 

Through performance, we teach our dancers to connect the dots between the classroom work, and the art form. We have a variety of performance opportunities throughout the school year, from Showcase performances in December and May, to Step Onstage classes, where students take part of the creation of new dances, or restaging repertory dances; as well as the dedicated performances of our resident teen dance companies, the Dance Jam, and Seeds; and the opportunity of auditioning to be part of The Velveteen Rabbit kids cast with our professional dance company, ODC/Dance.

The Velveteen Rabbit

November 28-December 6, 2026
Audition: September 26, 2026, 3-6pm
Weekend Rehearsals: Saturdays and Sundays Oct 10 - Nov 22.
Participants must be registered in an ODC Youth Program class.

Youth & Teen Program students are eligible to audition for the annual ODC/Dance production of The Velveteen Rabbit held at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The children’s cast performs with ODC/Dance, our professional dance company, in this beloved main stage production. Pre-registration for the audition is required. We are looking for one case of 10-12 dancers, ages 7-12.

 

December Showcase

December 5, 2026


Selected classes including Step Onstage, Dance Jam, SEEDS, and others join in an exciting performance toward the end of the fall session, demonstrating a broad range of techniques and styles. Classes that do not perform in the December Showcase have scheduled guardian observation dates.
 

May Showcase

May 15-16, 2027

Selected classes perform at the end of the school year in an onstage showcase at ODC Theater. Classes include tap, hip hop, Dance Around the World, Boys Class, Pre-Ballet, Kid Contemporary, and more! Our teen companies, Dance Jam, and ODC/Embodiment Project’s SEEDS will be featured. Students interested in a more extensive performance opportunity should consider Step Onstage and auditioning for the Dance Jam or SEEDS.

Step Onstage — Making and Performing Dances (Ages 8-18)

May 15-16, 2027
No audition required


These yearlong classes are an addition to contemporary technique classes, rehearsing weekly and culminating in  a full-length piece to be performed in  May, with a preview performance in December. Students rehearse most of the year with their age groups, 8-12 (Groups A and B) and 13-18 (Group C). Students learn choreography from the directors, as well as offer their own creative contributions.  Teachers will mentor each individual student, encouraging imagination, and exploration while valuing their curiosity. This class is essential to ODC’s Youth & Teen Contemporary Class curricula, providing performance training and preparation. Tuition for Step Onstage is included in these class prices.

 

Ballet Performance

May 8, 2027

The Ballet Performance showcases the work of ODC’s Youth & Teen ballet classes under the direction of Christopher Lam. In 2025, Chris introduced his new syllabus, a major milestone following two years of dedication to optimizing the program. Chris and faculty continue to work on integrating the syllabus into our curriculum, which helps clarify faculty and students’ expectations in class. These performances, held toward the end of the school year, offer a glimpse into the ballet program’s methodology.

Teens (Ages 13-18) are invited to audition for SEEDS (Teen Hip Hop Dance Company) and Dance Jam (Teen Contemporary Dance Company).
