Putting aspects of her Master’s research into practice, Charlotte teaches the foundational old school dancehall grooves, which she argues are most influential to the development of dancehall dance. The class will touch on posture, technique, key movement principles, attitude, and history of dancehall as we learn the most influential moves from Father Bogle’s repertoire (Bogle, Willie Bounce, Zip it Up, World Dance, L.O.Y and more). Come learn the most essential old-school moves which demonstrate the true flavor, feeling and flow of Dancehall!
Charlotte Nehm is a bay area native currently residing in Jamaica where she is actively involved in the local dancehall community. Charlotte taught dancehall for one year in the bay area, and led the student-troupe Trapsettaz, before moving to Jamaica to pursue a Master’s in Cultural studies. In addition to finishing her studies at the University, Charlotte has co-founded Belleh House, a dancehall dance hostel, as well as Dancehall Dimension, an organization promoting and preserving authentic flavor, feeling and flow of the dance.
