Paufve Dance: Sisters

Paufve Dance: Sisters

Featuring a cast of eight women spanning three generations and multiple cultures, Sisters is an anthology of dances built around women telling their stories. The project is timely in a climate where empowering feminist cultural rhetoric has collided with the stripping of rights and life from women and Queer/Trans/Gender non-conforming femmes. This has always been the case for women, whose whisper networks, emotional labor, and uncompensated, undocumented existence have sustained life for centuries. This piece is for women, particularly the women in the work, who share stories of birth, motherhood, sororal secrets, and pregnancy and how it ends in a time when the right to do so is becoming increasingly precarious.

About the artist

Paufve Dance honors choreography, teaching, and community. Through its programs, Paufve Dance creates spaces for rigorous choreographic craft and poetic processes in which every movement is intentional and unassailable, and where meanings and emotional truths proliferate. Paufve Dance believes that movement has its own intelligence, a wisdom we know through feeling. Paufve Dance moves in this body, in this moment, in this place, with these people, treating physical presence as essential and sacred, and valuing dance as critical to our evolution.
