Funsch Dance’s extended-length work, EPOCH, subverts conventional performance models by pushing the limits of duration. In cheeky defiance of Doris Humphrey’s warning “All dances are too long,” EPOCH unfolds over 12 hours, in a gratuitous surplus of movement, interrupted by moments of nothingness, to challenge the valuing of acquisition and excess. Is endurance political? What bonds does an unlikely scenario forge? EPOCH features an original sound score by Cheryl Leonard and color theory-influenced lighting designed by Danielle Ferguson. The movement vocabulary of the 20-person ensemble is marked by linear formalism performed in tight unison; this cracks apart into softer, somatic-driven vocabularies in the smaller groupings and culminating solos. This work will have suggested time entry points within the run, as well as a 6pm public discussion with the artists, local performance scholars, and representatives from the Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA).

We know living in the Bay Area is expensive. We also highly value the art onstage and are invested in supporting the artists that create it. Ticket prices only cover a small fraction of the resources invested in the performance and we strive to make them as accessible as possible. Continued financial support through ticket purchases and charitable donations from people like you make Art Access tickets possible.

All ticket sales are final. Performances, dancers, and guest artists subject to change.
