CALI & CO's Practice-to-Performance workshop is focused on building community by creating together. Bridging dance class practice with performance agency and original live music by Matt EL/Matt Langlois, we will cultivate our embodied experiences and generate solo, duet and group work rooted in intentional choreography, while engaging a critical analysis of the impacts of our work together. Equitable practices will support the embodied work leading to an informal, low stress and rigorous performance experience. This is a 'dance for everyone' workshop, open to ALL interested in movement and performance. This is Christine & Matt's 20th Practice-to-Performance workshop together, and are excited to be in partnership with ODC on this one!

Christine is longtime faculty at ODC, Associate Professor at Sonoma State University and Director of CALI & CO dance (2001). Christine's creative work and teaching is focused on the intersectionality in social justice work through the arts, and is specifically researching the impacts of white privilege and euro centrism in contemporary dance and how these power structures and value systems can be shifted into the horizontal for more equitable experiences in dance. Current trainings and research include: 1) Urban Bush Women's Summer Leadership Institute (SLI 2017) You, Me, We: Understanding Internalized Racial Oppression and How it Manifests in Our Artistic Community, 2) Performances with UBW of Hair & Other Stories in NYC (Jan/Feb 2019), UBW Residency at Sonoma State University (Fall 17'/Spring 18'), The People's Institute for Survival and Beyond (SLI 2017), Embodied Philosophy Course Work: 1) Embodying Social Justice, 2) Oppression, Privilege and Spiritual Practice Symposium (April-July 2019)
