ODC Theater is proud to present This is Also the Art, featuring artists originally scheduled to be produced in ODC Theater’s 2020 season. Join us on Thursdays this fall to see content from the works at variable stages, to hear how artists and their collaborators enliven the works in the liminal times and spaces between performances, and to ask your questions about the continued existence of the pieces offstage.
On Thursday, October 8, Catherine Galasso and collaborators will show clips from the 2018 performance of the aptly titled Alone Together and discuss how the piece resonates in the current climate. They will also discuss some of the process behind the making of Alone Together and how they think about adapting the piece for subsequent remounts. Alone Together was slated for performance in ODC Theater’s 2020 Walking Distance Dance Festival.
Brooklyn-based choreographer Catherine Galasso has been creating live performance at the intersection of dance, theater, and installation since 2006. Her cross-disciplinary, cast-specific performance works have been seen at places like Danspace Project, La MaMa, SFMOMA, Bibliotheque National in Paris and the Kohler Arts Center, as well as underground bank vaults, dilapidated houses, and grand marble staircases. From 2017-2018 she developed a series of works inspired by Boccaccio's Decameron, of which Alone Together was the culminating chapter. Her works have received one “Bessie” nomination and two "Izzie" nominations: for Bring On The Lumière! in 2012 and Alone Together in 2018. Galasso was an artist in residence at ODC Theater from 2009-2012.
Kolsch, Hefeweizen, and Hazy Pale Ale from our neighbors at Standard Deviant to enjoy in your home while you tune in. They’ll be delivered to your door on Thursday, October 8 between 1-4pm in advance of the event.
