ODC Theater is proud to present This is Also the Art, featuring artists originally scheduled to be produced in ODC Theater’s 2020 season. Join us on Thursdays this fall to see content from the works at variable stages, to hear how artists and their collaborators enliven the works in the liminal times and spaces between performances, and to ask your questions about the continued existence of the pieces offstage.
On Thursday, October 29, collaborators will discuss how These Are the Ones We Fell Among is being created by Ann Carlson in collaboration with inkBoat dancers Shinichi Iova-Koga and Dana Iova-Koga. The performers shape shift between the human and non-human, wrestling out loud with death and extinction while diving into the absurd and the playful. Rehearsals over Zoom have shaped the work in the context of global uncertainty. The project continues with musician/composers Carla Kihlstedt and Shahzad Ismaily, lighting by Allen Willner and set design by Frank Lee. These Are the Ones We Fell Among was slated to premiere in fall 2020 at ODC Theater.
inkBoat lives in the interplay of multiple artistic disciplines and viewpoints, drawing primarily from the Japanese performing and martial arts, decades of improvisation training and a strong influence from Daoist internal arts. inkBoat works border dance, performance art and theater. The company presents in theaters, museums, streets and abandoned spaces.
Ann Carlson’s award winning work borrows from the disciplines of dance and performance as well as visual, theatrical and social art practices. Her works are often built in collaboration with live animals.
Ann Carlson is a conceptual artist who uses gesture, text and humor to break your heart. —William Harris, New York Times.
