Love on the Run (2011)
A five minute short that takes to the streets of San Francisco to excavate everyday sources of contemporary choreography, from forthright public perception to the delight of choreographic transformation. Filmed on the streets of the San Francisco Financial District, in the studios at ODC, and at the San Francisco Legion of Honor. Set to a musical score by cellist Zoë Keating.

Walk on Air (against your better judgement) (2020)
A realization of the imagination of a sequestered dancer, left with her longing, her memories and her imagination. Bodies may be constrained but minds are free to roam. In Walk on Air—from a poem by Seamus Heaney— ODC/Dance takes you into nature and the uplifting vision of being together, dancing together, again.

From our habits, to tendencies, to relationships, to even political regimes, we live in a constant state of change and impermanence both personally and globally. By reframing these changes however as a fluid wave of continuation rather than as a series of beginning and end points, we allow ourselves to accept all that happens to and around us, and we begin to touch life more deeply.

Breath is an Engine
A work to find acceptance for the things we cannot control, both through movement and film. Digesting a new, overturned reality, coping with physical and emotional loneliness, stumbling through a world gone askew, we hope to memorialize the unfathomable pain and unexpected joys of the past year. We return to the consistency of our breath to usher us into a hazy future.

ABOUT

  • ODC/Dance

    Founded in 1971 by Artistic Director Brenda Way, ODC/Dance was one of the first American companies to incorporate a postmodern sensibility into a virtuosic contemporary dance technique and to commit major resources to interdisciplinary collaboration and musical commissions for the repertory.

    ODC/Dance Company’s outstanding dancers perform its imaginative repertory for more than 50,000 people annually. Two annual home seasons in San Francisco include Dance Downtown and the holiday production, The Velveteen Rabbit. Recent highlights include numerous forays into on-line interactive programming and filmmaking, appearances at the Joyce Theater in New York, Brooklyn Academy of Music Next Wave Festival in New York, MODAFE Festival in Seoul Korea, Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley, Royce Hall at UCLA and in past years, standing-room-only engagements in Europe, Russia, and Asia. In over 50 years, ODC/Dance has performed for more than a million people in 32 states and 11 countries, with support from the NEA, the U.S. State Department, and many state and city arts agencies.

    Jeremy Bannon-Neches was born in New York City and grew up in Augusta, Georgia. He attended the North Carolina School of the Arts before joining the Nevada Ballet Theater, where he danced for seven seasons.  In 2012 Jeremy moved to San Francisco where he danced for Robert Moses Kin, Post:Ballet, Dawson Dance, Zhukov Dance and Hope Mohr Dance. Jeremy has been a company member with ODC/Dance since 2015. He has choreographed twice for James Graham Dance Theater's Dance Lovers, twice for Levy Dance's Levy Salon and three times for the Nevada Ballet/Cirque Du Soleil Choreographic Collaboration.

    Nicole Maria Hoffschneider is a multi-award-winning dancer based out of Oakland, California. For over a decade, she has been studying, teaching, and performing contemporary and traditional dance forms from SWANA (South West Asia/North Africa), Greece, Turkey, and the Balkans. In 2019, she was a featured soloist in the prestigious San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, representing Egyptian Raqs Sharqi (belly dance). Over the course of the pandemic, she has begun to make dance films and is thrilled to be a recipient of the 2021 ODC Opportunity Fund.     Noah Wang is from San Francisco, having received his dance training from SF Ballet and Ruth Asawa School of the Arts (SOTA). He graduated from Juilliard with a BFA in dance in 2020, where he studied and performed works by Martha Graham, Twyla Tharp and Paul Taylor. Most recently, he has worked in a dance-on-film residency with Alonzo King Lines Ballet.
